Collaboration with peers, colleagues, and mentors is a topic that seems to come up in every class we are in. As emerging teachers we have not built our own portfolio of resources, lessons, activities etc, yet. Looking to other influences for assistance with developing our own material is essential. The idea of open education for student teachers is extremely important. Having access to a plethera of resources for any subject will save us so much time and energy. There is no rule in becoming a teacher that says you must create all of your own resources. Sharing with others is how we invent new ideas and grow as educators.
While in class on Tuesday and Micheal shared all of the different websites with neverending images, resources, and templates that I have never heard of I was struck with the feeling that this does not have to be the most challenging thing we do. I think that collaboration and open education are intertwined, open education can look like teachers sharing with each other or finding a lesson plan online. Obviously, there are some limitations such as copy right and getting permissions. But sources like the Creative Commons tell us exactly the context we can or cannot use a resource. The website called “The Greats” that was introduced to us includes a lot of really unique images including the one below.
